Letter from the Chair
Greetings Democrats!
With less than 100 days until the November election, campaign season has swung into high gear. This year, we will have the opportunity not only to take the White House and bring about the change our country needs, but also to flip the State Assembly to a Democratic majority.
Both of these elections will have a tremendous impact upon us here in Wisconsin and around the country. If there is one thing that the last eight years have taught us, it is that elections have consequences and it matters which party governs. Any one of us could recite a laundry list of issues where Republicans have utterly failed the nation and the state of Wisconsin and equally long would be the list of how Democrats offer up something different, something better the change we need.
We will need to Wisconsin for Barack Obama to serve as our next president. And winning Wisconsin’s electoral votes begins in the most Democratic are in the state, our 2nd Congressional District. To make this happen, we need to turn out votes at an unprecedented level. We can make it happen if Democrats work together.
While the State Assembly majority will be contested all around Wisconsin, our 2nd Congressional District is home to six of the top-tier races that will determine whether or not we as Democrats can govern in this state. South Central Wisconsin will be the battleground for the majority in the state legislature and again, we can win if Democrats work together.
The Democratic Party of the 2nd Congressional District will be working hard alongside our candidates not only to win in 2008 it is imperative that we do so but also to build our party for the future. But we need your help. Democrats are the party of the people, not of the powerful individuals and interests that have swung our state and nation radically off-course. So we need all of you to join in and be part of the effort to win in 2008.
Two important things that you can do right now are to make a contribution to the Democratic Party of the 2nd Congressional District and to volunteer to be part of our organizing program this year. We are funded by grassroots Democrats not the wealthy or special interests. So we need each of you to make a contribution to support our work to elect Democrats and to build the party. Our power comes from our community involvement. So we need each of you to join in the organizing to win.
You can make a secure online contribution right here on our website and to get involved, just contact our chair, Peter Rickman at rickman.peter@gmail.com. The stakes in 2008 are incredibly high, and as we count down the days until November, we need all hands on deck to right the course of our state and our country.
In Solidarity,
Peter Rickman
