There are literally tens of thousands of Democratic voters in the 2nd Congressional District. In fact, there were more votes for Jim Doyle in 2006 as well as John Kerry and Russ Feingold in 2004 in our district than any other in the state. And our district has the most "Strong Democrats." But there are only about one thousand members of the party in our district.
Members of the Democratic Party are our strength and lifeblood. They are the leaders of our party and its financial and activist base. With a larger membership, we will be stronger, win more elections, and better move the Democratic agenda.
But 2008 offers us a tremendous organizing opportunity. Enthusiasm and excitement around Democratic politics is at a generational high. Now is our chance not only to elect Democrats but also to build our party for the future.
So we need to reach out to our party's most faithful voters and ask them to join us. We have targeted a group of core Democratic voters that are not yet members of the party to recruit and organize them as members. They'll receive a piece of mail making the case to join the party, inviting them to join. To build our party, we need to contact them as well to follow up and ask them to join - and then get them to take the next step to becoming a Democratic activist this fall and for the future.
So as these Democrats receive our mailing, we will hold a phone bank to contact them. We'll call out of the DPW headquarters for two nights. We'll provide education and training for all activist participants as we work to build our party now and for the future. We hope you'll join us for this exciting organizing opportunity on one or both of our recruitment events.
